Please keep in mind that these breeds are straightrun, which means they are not sorted by sex at birth. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds or exchanges for any roosters. We have decided to only provide straightrun for most breeds as it is difficult and stressful for the young chicks to undergo vent sexing. We want what is best for our chicks and do not believe it is fair to cause them unnecessary pain right after hatching. If it is important to you to avoid roosters, we suggest looking into our autosexing breeds. Roosters can be ethically raised for meat, pet food, and of course make excellent flock gaurdians. They show great care and affection for their hens and surprisingly, often become some of the best farm friends.

The Buff Orpington chicken is an iconic backyard chicken breed. They are a modern breed, produced to be a dual-purpose chicken with maximal potential, meaning larger and a more productive egg layer. One of the reasons that Buff Orpington chickens are so popular is their incredible temperaments. They are docile chickens and have even been called “lap chickens” because they are so affectionate with their keepers. Orpingtons are also quieter chickens, making them appealing for those who live in more suburban communities.

Buff Orpingtons respond well to attention. They like to be fussed over and held, making them easy for handling and an excellent option for families with children.

The Orpington is a large breed chicken. They should have a broad, heavyset body that is set low to the ground. Their feathers remain fluffed out along the entirety of their curved, short back. Buff Orpingtons are known for having feathers of pale yellow or gold. They are well-feathered with shanks, feet, and beaks of pinkish white. Their eyes, earlobes, combs, and wattles are red.
