These birds are autosexing, meaning the males and females look different upon hatch. Although fairly accurate, this is certainly not an exact science especially with the welsummer coloring, please expect about 75% accuracy.

The Welsummer breed is well-known for its large, terracotta-colored eggs that are often spotted with dark spots. These chickens are known to be friendly, intelligent, and athletic, enjoying foraging and free ranging. Additionally, Welsummer hens are excellent egg layers, producing an average of 200-250 eggs per year starting at around 20-24 weeks of age (5-6 months old).
