Brahma Chickens

Brahmas are gentle, impressive birds that add instant charm to any flock. Known for their calm nature, quiet voices, and beautiful feathering, these birds are easy to love and make a wonderful addition to both family farms and backyard coops.

Our Brahmas are cold-hardy, making them excellent choices for Canadian winters. Their thick, downy feathers and soft, fluffy feet give them a distinctive, almost regal look — they truly are the gentle giants of the chicken world.

Our chicks hatch out in a lovely range of colours, including light lavender, blue, black, and splash. Each bird is beautifully soft, with feathers so silky they almost feel like fur.

Brahmas are generally quiet and friendly, often content to follow you around the yard or calmly mingle with other breeds. Their large size can make them appear imposing, but their personalities are among the sweetest you’ll find.

They lay medium to small eggs that are light brown to pinkish in tone. While not the most prolific layers, they are steady producers, averaging about 3-4 eggs per week — often continuing through colder months when other breeds slow down.

Our Bloodline

Over the years we’ve focused on selecting for healthy, hardy birds rather than chasing strict exhibition standards.

As part of strengthening the genetics in our flock, there is some Cochin influence in this line. Because of that, you’ll occasionally see birds hatch with a single comb rather than the traditional pea comb associated with Brahmas. When this occurs, the single comb is typically quite small.

We like to be transparent about our breeding lines, and while this means our birds may not be suitable for exhibition showing, we believe it contributes to a strong, healthy flock that’s well suited to life on the homestead.

💙 A Note on Straight-Run Chicks

All our Brahma chicks are straight-run, meaning they are not sexed at hatch. We do not vent-sex our chicks, as it’s stressful and can cause harm to day-olds. Our goal is always the wellbeing of each chick from hatch to home.

If you prefer guaranteed hens, we recommend checking out our sex-linked breeds, which offer higher visual accuracy.

Roosters, when raised ethically, make excellent flock protectors and companions, and can also be raised for meat or pet food. They often show great care and gentleness toward their hens.
