🖤 Ebony Cross Chickens

Our Ebony Cross chicks are one of our own Tevah Acres custom sex-linked crosses, developed for beauty, resilience, and practicality. They make an excellent choice for anyone wanting dependable layers with rich colouring and calm, adaptable personalities.

Because they are sex-linked, males and females can often be distinguished at hatch by their down colour. The female chicks hatch dark — usually black or deep brownish-black — while males show lighter or barred patches. This method is highly reliable, often around 90% accurate, but it isn’t guaranteed, so a few roosters may still be included.

As adults, the hens are stunning: deep ebony or black plumage, sometimes with golden or copper accents around the neck and feather tips. They are excellent foragers, thriving on pasture or free range, but also do well in contained systems. They tend to be easygoing, moderately talkative, and are active foragers.

Thanks to hybrid vigour, Ebony Cross hens usually begin laying a bit earlier — around five months of age (20–22 weeks) — and are prolific layers, averaging five or more eggs per week. Their eggs are medium-large, light brown, and fairly consistent through much of the year.
