Favacana Chickens

Our Favacana is a charming and adorable cross between a Salmon Faverolles hen and an Ameraucana rooster — combining the best of both breeds to create a friendly, cold-hardy, and beautifully feathered bird.

This cross was developed to bring a little more strength and resilience to the gentle Salmon Faverolles line, while adding the Ameraucana’s reliable health and lovely egg colour. The result is a medium-sized, fluffy bird with personality and grace — perfect for northern climates and small farm flocks.

Favacanas are cold-hardy thanks to their small combs and dense plumage, which helps prevent frostbite. They feather out quickly and mature into gorgeous birds with varied colours, ranging from soft pale tones to lavender, blue, or even black. Many will show partial feathering on their feet, muffs and beards, and sometimes even the extra toe carried from their Faverolles heritage.

Their personalities are as sweet as their looks — gentle, curious, and calm, making them ideal for mixed flocks or family environments.

One of their most special traits is their egg colour. Thanks to their Ameraucana parentage, Favacanas lay Easter-coloured eggs, typically green, but they can also range from light blue to light pink. They are steady layers, providing a good number of eggs throughout the year with minimal fuss.

This cross is our farm’s version of the Easter Egger — a consistent pairing we’ve chosen for its reliability, calm temperament, and beautiful feather and egg colours.

💙 A Note on Straight-Run Chicks

All our Favacana chicks are straight-run, meaning they are not sexed at hatch. We do not vent-sex our chicks, as it’s stressful and can cause harm to day-old birds. Our goal is always the wellbeing of each chick from hatch to home.

If you prefer guaranteed hens, we recommend checking out our sex-linked breeds, which offer higher visual accuracy.

Roosters from this cross often grow into friendly, attentive flock guardians, carrying the Ameraucana’s steady temperament and the Faverolles’ gentleness.
