🧡 Buff Orpington Chickens
Buff Orpingtons are one of the most beloved backyard breeds — calm, gentle, and irresistibly friendly. They’re often called the “lap chickens” of the poultry world because of how affectionate and easy to handle they are. Their docile nature and soft clucking make them a perfect fit for families, hobby farms, or even suburban settings where quieter birds are appreciated.
Originally developed as a dual-purpose breed, Buff Orpingtons are both large and productive, offering a beautiful balance between egg and table value. They have a broad, heavyset body that sits low to the ground, and their full, fluffy feathers give them a rounded, elegant appearance.
Their colouring is a hallmark of the breed — a soft golden buff that glows warmly in the sunlight. They have pinkish-white beaks and legs, with red combs, wattles, and earlobes that add a cheerful contrast.
Orpingtons are also wonderful layers, producing large, light brown eggs on a regular schedule — usually 4-5 eggs per week, depending on the season. Their consistency and calm temperaments make them one of the most rewarding breeds to keep.
They respond beautifully to attention, often seeking interaction and handling. Many owners find that Orpingtons are the first to greet them at the gate and the last to wander off after chores.
💙 A Note on Straight-Run Chicks
All our Orpington chicks are straight-run, meaning they are not sexed at hatch. We do not vent-sex our chicks, as it can be stressful and cause harm to day-old birds. Our goal is always the wellbeing of each chick from hatch to home.
If you prefer guaranteed hens, we recommend checking out our sex-linked breeds, which offer higher visual accuracy.
Roosters, when raised ethically, make excellent flock protectors and can also be raised for meat or pet food. They are known to be gentle giants who care deeply for their hens.
